About Me

Hello! My name is Rowena and I’m the founder of Africa Health Ventures. I am insanely passionate about healthtech ventures in Africa. I’ve spent the past 20 years building digital health products, companies, and communities.

Execution Experience in Digital Health in Africa: I’ve personally built and deployed digital health systems in 12 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa. I’ve overseen teams deploying digital health in 40 countries across Africa. I was a first hire and C-Suite executive of Dimagi, a digital health company now active in 130 countries.

Market Knowledge & Relationships: Founder and host of Aid, Evolved, the leading digital health podcast in Africa. Through this platform, I’ve developed relationships with founders, investors, and other stakeholders across the ecosystem.

Africa Investment Experience: I was the technology lead for Madiro Impact Ventures, the venture investing arm of Madiro Foundation. I am an active angel investor in emerging markets.

I’ve built and deployed systems for Intel and BlackBerry. I have my Masters in Information Systems from the University of California in Berkeley and a Bachelors in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada. I live in South Africa.
